There’s not a lot your opponents can do when you only lose four points on your own serve in an entire match, and that was what happened when Ajeet Rai and Tom Fancutt played the wild card pair of Tom Gadecki and Sam Oster on the Gold Coast tonight. Only one of the latter pair held serve, as they won just the third and seventh games in the first set. The two games which Gadecki and Oster lost had both gone to a deciding point, so it wasn’t as though they were being driven into the ground. The set took 23 minutes, but they would have been hopeful of seeing some improvement in the second set.
It wasn’t to be, as they managed to win just six more points, with three of those coming in the first game. Again they got taken to deuce, this time after leading 40-30, but a double fault kissed that game goodbye. One point in the third game, and two in the fifth, were all that they could muster from then on, with Rai and Fancutt holding to love every time. The final score was 6-2, 6-0, with the match taking just 42 minutes.
