Top seeds Finn Reynolds and Roy Stepanov have been beaten in straight sets by Anthony Genov and Iker Urribarrens Ramirez in their doubles quarter-final in Benicarlo, a result which probably shocked everyone except the pair who won the match. The first break of serve came five games in, when Reynolds and Stepanov lost after being up 40-30. They did break straight back, although Genov and Urribarrens Ramirez saved the first two of three break points.
There were more break points the next time they served, with Reynolds and Stepanov up 0-40 before Genov and Urribarrens Ramirez won the four points they needed to hold. Games then went with serve until Reynolds and Stepanov were trying to force a tie-break, but they managed only one point as Genov and Urribarrens Ramirez broke again to finish the set after 41 minutes.
Both pairs had to come back from 30-40 to win the second and third games In the second set, but again games continued to go with serve. The only break came in the eighth game, when Reynolds and Stepanov were able to save only one break point from 15-40 down. They were up by the same score in the next game, but were unable to convert any of their chances, Genov and Urribarrens Ramirez winning 7-5, 6-3 after an hour and 11 minutes.
