Rai broke Puttergill’s serve in the first game, and again in the fifth, before converting his third set point after 29 minutes when he broke for the third time.  The second set saw a huge momentum shift when Puttergill won the first four games, although he needed multiple break points before winning Rai’s two.  Puttergill had two more break points in the seventh game, which were also set points, but couldn’t convert either.  It didn’t really matter, as he served out comfortably to finish the set after 42 minutes.

They traded service breaks early in the final set, although Puttergill only managed to overcome Rai after three deuces.  Puttergill had more chances two games later when he led 0-40, but Rai fought back and eventually held serve.  There were three deuces in this game as well, and also in the next, but it was Puttergill who lost out in the latter when Rai converted his second break point.  The remaining games went with serve, Rai finishing with a hold to love as he completed the match after an hour and 57 minutes.  The final score was 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.
