There was just one break of serve in the first set when Finn Reynolds and AJ Catanzariti played Adam Heinonen and Matt Ponchet in their doubles quarter-final in Madrid early this morning, with the fourth seeds losing four points in a row after being up 30-0 in the second game.  They were lucky not to go down a second break as well, fighting back from 0-40 to win the sixth game on a deciding point.  The remaining games saw easy holds, Heinonen and Ponchet serving out the set after 30 minutes.

The most vital game in the match for Reynolds and Catanzariti was the fifth in the second set, because they again came back from the brink at 0-40 to hold serve.  Heinonen and Ponchet had to hold serve in the tenth game to stay in the set, but Reynolds and Catanzariti broke to take them to a decider.  The set had taken 35 minutes.

The match tie-break started with the first two points being lost, but Reynolds and Catanzariti got the next mini-break on the last point before they changed ends.  They got another when whoever served first out of Heinonen and Ponchet lost the second of his next pair of points, but gave one back two points later after they had changed ends for the second time.  The remaining points went with serve, which was enough to give Reynolds and Catanzariti a 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 victory.  The match had taken an hour and 25 minutes.
