Had I known that it would have been nearly half past seven this morning before Finn Reynolds and Roy Stepanov played their doubles qualifying match in Basel I would have cut short my sleep in order to try to find a stream covering the match! From the point by point scoring it was way closer than the bookmakers had envisaged, everyone having the second-seeded pair of Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens as the overwhelming favourites.  The Germans had to survive a deciding point to win the opening game, and it wasn’t until the eighth game that they were able to break their opponents’ serve. They then held safely to complete the set after 26 minutes.

Reynolds and Stepanov started the second set perfectly by winning the first game to love, but they had to get through a deciding point in the fifth game to continue the sequence of holds.  The seventh game proved the decisive one, as they were able to save only the first two break points from 15-40. Once again it would be the only break of serve in the set, with Frantzen and Jebens going on to serve out the match to love after an hour and one minute. The final score was 6-3, 6-4.
