Lulu Sun has been beaten by Valentina Ryser in their second round singles match in Palma del Rio, fading out over the latter stages after winning the first set. Ryser held serve to start the match before Sun won four games in a row, but she lost the next one with her second double fault of the game. Sun did better in her next service game, finishing with consecutive aces, and then broke Ryser’s serve again to finish the set after 35 minutes.
That was the end of the good news for Sun, as Ryser won the first four games in the second set. The remaining games all went with serve, although Ryser lost her first set point with a double fault and then conceded a break point to Sun, but she won the last three points to complete the set after another 35 minutes.

The final set was just a minute shorter than the other two, and it started the same way as the second when Ryser broke Sun’s serve in the opening game. She broke again in the fifth game, and then held serve after five deuces in what became the longest game of the match. Sun had had two break points in that game, but she lost her own serve again in what became the final game of the match. The score was 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, and they were on court for an hour and 44 minutes.
